Afrique-orientale-australe News Mammal Research Institute (UP, RSA)
1 April 2011
The Mammal Research Institute is an important partner of Cirad in Southern Africa. Integrated in the Department of Zoology and Entomology at the University of Pretoria (RSA), the MRI conducts research and does deliver lectures on the biology and ecology of African mammals, in the context of sustainable development.
Since 2007, MRI and Cirad have been working on the ecology and epidemiology of infectious diseases at the interface between non-domesticated African mammals, cattle and humans. These diseases can threaten the conservation of threatened mammals, or, conversely, affect livestock or public health in areas of contact. A Cirad researcher has been assigned at MRI since 2009.
